A coordinated humanitarian effort led by Friends of Montserrat Cares (FOMC) the Social Advancement Group (SAG) has once again delivered critical support to vulnerable residents across Montserrat.

The initiative, spearheaded by Hasina Letellier, Co-Founder and Director of SAG, brought together a strong network of partners including Friends of Montserrat Cares (FOMC), The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, UCAP Shipping, and the Government of Montserrat through the Montserrat Red Cross. Together, the group coordinated, packed, and distributed food and essential household supplies to those most in need.

The operation saw widespread participation from volunteers and community partners, all working collaboratively to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of relief items across the island.

Following several hours of unpacking donated goods, Red Cross teams loaded multiple vans and began distributing supplies to recipients throughout Montserrat. Organizers indicated that additional barrels of donations are still to be unpacked and circulated, signalling that the support initiative will continue in the coming days.

Among those supporting the effort on the ground were Friends of Montserrat Cares board member Victor E. Lewis, long-time colleague Wilfred Maskey “Roach,” Tanisha of UCAP Shipping, and members of The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York.

Delmaude C. Ryan of the Montserrat Red Cross commended the initiative, highlighting both its practical impact and the emotional response from recipients.

“The overall initiative by SAG & Friends of Montserrat was incredibly beneficial in supplementing the needs of the vulnerable in our community,” Ryan said. “I was extremely pleased to see the joy expressed by recipients who had no idea they were receiving a package – that alone was enough and spoke volumes.”

She added, “Even while visiting the hospital days after the initial deliveries, a mother expressed her thanks for the items for her little girl; she was so filled with emotion. You definitely know that it was an answer to a prayer.”

The initiative underscores the continued role of community-driven partnerships in addressing social needs and supporting vulnerable populations across Montserrat.

Partnership network

Supporting partnerships for the initiative included The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, UCAP Shipping formerly known as Emerald Shipping, Villa 2860 Woodlands and My Caribbean Channels. The organizers described this phase as the beginning of a broader distribution effort, with more barrels of supplies still to be unpacked and delivered.
