Humanitarian Aid Delivered to Vulnerable Residents Across Montserrat

A coordinated humanitarian initiative led by the Social Advancement Group has delivered essential food, clothing, and living supplies to vulnerable residents across Montserrat, following a large-scale packing and distribution effort on March 21, 2026.
The initiative was spearheaded by Hasina Letellier, Co-Founder and Director of the Social Advancement Group, and executed in collaboration with Friends of Montserrat Cares (FOMC), The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, UCAP Shipping, and the Government of Montserrat through the Montserrat Red Cross.
The operation centred around the shipment of a 25-40-foot container packed with 70-gallon barrels and U-Haul closet boxes, optimized to maximize the volume and variety of donated items. Supplies included adult diapers, clothing for all age groups, baby products, food staples such as rice, pasta, canned and dry goods, as well as school supplies, hygiene products, and medical kits.
Additional items ranged from toys and books to bed pads, reusable bags, and a pallet of larger household goods, including an air conditioning unit.
On the ground, dozens of volunteers supported the unpacking and distribution process, working alongside Montserrat Red Cross staff to load and dispatch supplies across the island. Among those assisting were Emmanuella Jean (Programmes & Projects Officer), Delmaude C. Ryan, Social Service Director Shaaron Williams, FOMC board members Victor E. Lewis, Darryl Chalmers, and Jessica Chalmers, members of The Montserrat Progressive Society of NY, and Tanisha from UCAP Shipping.
“This is just the beginning,” said Kaisa Robinson of The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York. “With several more barrels awaiting unpacking, we’re committed to circulating these goods to offset community needs and build resilience among our most vulnerable.”
The effort was supported by a number of partners, including Hyron Roach and staff at UCAP Shipping (formerly Emerald Shipping), Loraine Lewis and staff at Montserrat Shipping, the Montserrat Port Authority, and My Caribbean Channels.
The initiative aligns with the Montserrat Red Cross’s designation of 2025 as the “Year of the Community,” reinforcing its focus on volunteerism and collective action under the guiding message: “It only takes a bit of your time to make a big difference. Together, we put kindness into action.”
Friends of Montserrat Cares, a U.S.-based organization involved in the effort, reiterated its broader mission of “empowering the Emerald Isle through economic and sustainable development, from education innovation to healthcare and senior living solutions.”
Organizers indicated that distribution efforts are ongoing, with additional supplies expected to be processed and delivered in the coming days as part of a continued push to support communities across the island.
